How it Works
James W. Gibson is an attorney, mediator, and educator with an extensive background in alternate
dispute resolution and conflict management.
Since 1994 he has trained mediators through the Sam Houston State University Extended Learning Program, Texas A&M University,
Texas Woman’s University, and the University of Houston-Clear Lake by conducting
seminars in basic mediation, advanced mediation, family mediation, mediation of employer/employee disputes, and advanced
communications skills. He also serves as student legal advisor at Sam Houston State, mediates disputes for private clients,
consults with organizations on the development and implementation of alternate dispute resolution systems.
Gibson is a frequent speaker on conflict management at regional and national conferences. He has written or contributed to many training manuals, and his writing has
been published in
Texas Trial Lawyer
, and the newsletter of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.
Gibson is a member of the State Bar of Texas and was a founder and board member of the Texas Mediator Credentialing
Association and the Texas Mediation Trainers Roundtable. A former member of the board of directors of the Texas
Association of Mediators and President of the Houston chapter of the Society of Professional in Dispute Resolution (now the Association for Conflict Resolution),
he has been honored for outstanding service to the ADR Section of the State of Bar of Texas. Gibson received his B.B.A. degree from the University of
Texas and his J.D. degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law.
